This place is a 7 inch tribute to the Spanish and Catalan groovy gipsy sounds, recorded between 1960 and 1985. We frequently visit the Iberian Peninsula and fell in love with the gipsy sounds, especially the mix of rumba and flamenco with pop, funk and rock. Lots of it has a real nice production with piano and horns and I really love the sound of Barcelona between 1965-1975, where latin meets flamenco rumba. It's Iberian folk music, telling stories about love and live, and generally has an uplifting vibe, althoug the lyrics also can be serious or sarcastic, and double meanings are employed plentifull. It's really a satisfying digging experience, many covers are very stylish and funny, and always colorfull. And most of the stuff is to be found very cheap in the bins of Barcelona and other cities. Most of the material on this site is from my own vinyl collection and all records are Spanish pressings except a few by international Rumba King Peret, who released tunes in a bunch of european countries. You might know his famous Borriquito tune, but there's a whole universe of sounds, styles and singers way beyond this. Among my favorite artist are Dolores Vargas "La Terremoto", a fierce Spanish version of La Lupe, Chacho with his raspy voice and funky tunes, and El Gitano Portugues, who indeed was from Portugal. And of course, Teresiya, a young gipsy girl from Mataro, Barcelona. For more spanish tunes check my Costa Brava 70s mix here.
