Los Chunguitos

Los Chunguitos (something like Little Rascals) are the three brothers Enrique, Juan and José Salazar, the same family from Extremadura which also contained artists like Porrina de Badajoz, Azúcar Moreno and Alazán. When living in the Vallecas neighbourhood of Madrid, they started to perform in local bars on the Plaz Mayor, finally scoring their big hit Dame Veneno in 1976. This psychedelic funky gipsy classic was from their first album, produced by El Dúo Dinámico, and sold an astounding fifty thousand copies. They were also into soundtracks like  Deprisa, Deprisa (Carlos Saura), Perros Callejeros (José Antonio de la Loma) and Días Contados (Imanol Uribe). Singing about life in the poorer parts of town, combined with very catchy hooks, fully orchestrated with a spanish wall of sound, but still funky. Me Sabe A Humo, Me La Lleve a La Era and Prisionero are all up to the standards of their classic Dame Veneno. And as a bonus you get single covers with the most streetwise haircuts ever.
