Teresiya

Teresiya was daughter to Consuelo Pubill Gimenez "La Selu", who sang with Peret in the seventies. Born in Mataro (next to Barcelona), she got her nickname "La Nina Gitana" (The Gipsy Girl) for singing at early age and released three singles on the Discophon label. Easily on of my favorites, especially her version of Malaguena, one of my favorite tunes. Originally written on piano by Cuban-born Ernesto Lecuona, the composition got very famous when Carlos Montoya adapted it for flamenco guitar. Teresiya's version reclaims the piano on lead. Check out the clip, it's hard to belief a little girl is singing this. Jose Feliciano also did a superb version of this classic.
