El Luis

Few people can mix up flamenco, rumba, pop, rock and soul like Luis Barrull (Born in La Coruña, 1948), commonly known as El Luis, brother to Antonio, aka the famed artist El Zingaro. As a young boy he moved to Argentine, where he stayed for 15 years. It was also here where he started to sing flamenco. After returning to Spain, he scored a huge hit with his first single Te Lo Digo Cantando in 1976. After releasing two full albums, El Luis (CBS 1976) and Solo (CBS 1978), he spent some time in Carabanchel Prison Madrid, where became a more religious person, and went to New York to record his third, called Gitano Soul (CBS 1981). All three albums were produced by José Luis de Carlos. In the 1991, he recorded in Madrid his last album,Vis A Vis, for the independent label A.R. He also wrote songs for Las Grecas, Los Chichos, and his Brother El Zingaro. Luis is currently not active anymore in the music business.
