Chacho

Chacho was born Josep Maria Valentin on 11 november 1940 in El Portal, Barcelona. He was one of the three great innovators of the rumba, alongside Peret and El Pescailla, but never reached fame the way Peret did. Chacho released 22 EPs and 8 LPs between 1967 and 1976 for EMI Regal, Discophon, Marfer, Gramusic and Ariola, which are all pretty hard to come by these days. And that's a shame, cause his raspy voice and upbeat rumba is irresistible. In his earlier days he was accompagnied by Linus and Enriquet and was performing a lot in clubs like Las Vegas or El Marabu. His most freaky song Bum Bum, from the soundtrack to the Con Ella Llegó el Amor flick, was compiled on the excellent Achilifunk album (Lovemonk, 2007).
